$3.7 million bridge will open in Clifton Springs on Route 32 over the Chenango River by spring 2023

DOT is breaking ground on a $3.7 million bridge project over the Chenango River, connecting Route 32 with Route 12. It will become an important corridor relied upon by travelers and commercial vehicles in New York State. The Project will include alternating lanes with flaggers. 

The official start of the construction takes place in Clifton Springs in June 2022 and is planned to be completed the following spring, making it the 5th bridge connecting two routes NY-32 and NY-12.

“Flooding is often a concern during the spring and fall in the surrounding areas of the Chenango River. It creates negative impact on economical development of the county. Aiding in infrastructure, the new bridge project will enable consumers to travel to local shops and malls and visit new cities as tourists. It will also support the local economy providing jobs to construction workers and repair crews,” said Clifton Springs Mayor James Keyes.

DOT worked hard with local residents to bring this project forward including 3 public meetings throughout 2021. A sidewalk will also be included in the project due to community feedback received from these meetings. 

The aim is to make the area more walk-friendly, promoting tourism development. It is also a part of the pedestrian safety campaign by The New York State Departments of Transportation and Health teamed up with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
